British Gas launches charging package to support Mitsubishi plug-in vehicles

British Gas has launched its first free nationwide charging package to include a home charge point and access to the nationwide POLAR public charging network.

Thanks to the government’s subsidised funding scheme, British Gas is offering electric vehicle users nationwide the option of having a safer charging point installed at home for free. Those who take up this offer will also get access to the POLAR public network which will keep them charged up when out and about at no extra cost.

Andreas Atkins, head of electric vehicle services at British Gas, said: “This offer is a milestone for the UK’s electric vehicle market. The number of electric vehicles on the road is predicted to hit 1.5m by 2020 and the Government funding scheme which makes this offer possible is doing a lot to help reduce the cost of owning an EV even further.

“As the offer is open to anyone it’s a great time for the friends or family of EV drivers to install electric vehicle charge points at their homes. For example, if someone is making a regular journey to and from a relative’s house then having a charge point at both destinations could be worthwhile.”

Marshall and Mitsubishi pioneer Motor Codes review technology

Marshall Motor Group and Mitsubishi Motors have worked closely with Motor Codes, the Trading-Standards-approved garage scheme, to develop its online service and repair ratings system.

The new information exchange will enable subscribing garages – main dealers and independents – to feed in customer opinion from their own customer relationship tools.

Following the six-month Marshall pilot, Mitsubishi Motors has become the first brand to adopt this open approach to feedback.

Motor Codes currently has around 120,000 customer surveys on its website. They are displayed unedited, with each review traceable to a service, repair or MOT job via invoice number and vehicle registration.

Daksh Gupta, Marshall CEO, said: “With online reviews, volume is key. The more comments backing a high satisfaction score, the more people trust what they see. Ultimately, this is good for business.”

Mitsubishi Mirage vs rivals

We test the all-new Mitsubishi Mirage against two great-value rivals, the Skoda Citigo and Suzuki Swift

In recent years, Mitsubishi has been virtually invisible in the small car market in this country, but there’s a new offering on the horizon: the Mirage.
It’s an all-new budget supermini, which the company hopes will deliver more sales success than the Smart ForFour-based Colt it replaces. Built in Thailand, the newcomer is aimed at emerging markets, but with new three-cylinder petrol engines, its focus on low emissions should appeal to UK buyers. There’s a choice of 1.0 or 1.2-litre versions with prices from just £8,999, although we test the 1.2-litre in £11,999 range-topping 3 trim.
At this price, there’s no shortage of great affordable cars on the market – not least the reigning Auto Express Car of the Year, the Skoda Citigo. The Suzuki Swift is an established and very accomplished small supermini, too. So is the Mirage a real contender or just an illusion?

2014 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV drive review

Back in the 1980s, Mitsubishi built funky vehicles that were at least on the technological cutting edge. Cars such as the Starion ESI-R, the first-generation Diamond Star Eclipses and the Diamante were definitely off the beaten path, but they offered solid value, good performance and gizmos galore for the day.
Then came the Lost Decade in Japan: Starting around 1991, the economic climate gradually eroded Mitsubishi's cash flow and consequently their ability to develop competitive new products. Worse still, even the minor facelifts the company's limited budget allowed seemed to go drastically wrong: witness the final Diamantes imported to the U.S. or the progressive uglification of the Galant sedan.
The Outlander crossover took something of a reverse path: It started life here in 2003 cursed with a strikingly bad proboscis, gradually morphing through generic, before ending at vaguely sporty with a Lancer-like grille and familiar SUV side lines. Unfortunately, the Outlander's interior remained mired in “strikingly bad,” convincing the handful of buyers who stumbled upon a Mitsubishi dealership that Subaru, Hyundai and, we suspect in a few cases, Suzuki would better fit the bill.

Mitsubishi reveals the future of commercial vehicles with GR-HEV

PICK-UPS could be the next vehicles to make the switch to hybrid powertrains, if a concept by Mitsubishi goes into production.
Badged the GR-HEV, the concept is a diesel-electric hybrid – powered both by a 2.5-litre Mitsubishi ‘clean diesel’ engine, and an electric motor mated a selection of batteries secured in the chassis.
An automatic gearbox and computer control the operation of the engine and electric motor, while Mitsubishi’s S-AWC all-wheel-drive system is used to keep the GR-HEV moving on rough terrain.
The concept, says Mitsubishi, is designed to bring down the emissions of the average pick-up to less than 150g/km of CO2 without compromising their payload or performance – and should help the firm target the world.
In fact Mitsubishi isn’t just targeting well-off European and Asian countries with the technology, but also emerging markets – where it says the one-tonne pickup format is very in demand.

Hot Car Deal – Mitsubishi Outlander

The Mitsubishi Outlander, launched back in 2007, is being replaced this month by an all-new version. That's often a great moment to strike a bargain as dealers attempt to clear out unsold stock of the old model - and we've strong evidence to support that, with a generous deal from Mitsubishi itself.
The outgoing Mitsubishi Outlander is a very sizeable SUV, offering plenty of space for passengers and luggage. Available in either five- or seven-seat layouts, it's a great option for large families.
With five seats in place, the boot measures 480 litres, although with seven in place, that drops to a mere 180 litres. If you do need extra space, you can fold down the second and third rows of seats down to get a huge 1,000 litres (up to the window line).

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries plans second MRJ assembly line

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is studying the possibility of building a new assembly facility near Japan's Nagoya airport to ramp up the planned production rate of its Mitsubishi MRJ regional jet.
"MHI is currently studying whether it would be possible to secure a plant site adjoining Nagoya airport, anticipating the production volume increase of the MRJ," says a spokesman.
"MHI would conduct final assembly of the MRJ there if the site is secured."
He adds that it is still unclear when, should the site be secured, construction will begin and how long it will last.
MHI already has a plant beside Nagoya airport where it has said it will assemble the MRJ70 and MRJ90 aircraft.
"Initially, MHI will start production of MRJ at a rate of one or two per month, which will be increased later," says the spokesman.
MHI is responsible for manufacturing major parts of the MRJ, including the fuselage, wings and tails, and will take charge of the aircraft's final assembly.
Mitsubishi Aircraft told Flightglobal last December that it was studying how to ramp up the planned production rate of its regional jet to meet the delivery demands of customers. It calculates that it needs to produce 10 aircraft monthly in order to meet demands.
If a second line proves necessary, however, it will only be set up after the aircraft receives type certification scheduled for the third quarter of 2015, it added.

Mitsubishi Lancer is UK’s most reliable used car

• Mitsubishi Lancer is the most reliable car of the last 15 years
• Audi RS6 comes bottom of the list
• Cars from Japan and the Far-East dominate
The Mitsubishi Lancer has been named as the UK’s most reliable car of the last 15 years by aftermarket warranty company, Warranty Direct. The company uses a unique system called the Reliability Index to rate individual car’s reliability.
The Lancer topped the list, with cars from Japan and the Far-East dominating proceedings. Only the Vauxhall Agila (2000-2008 model), Volvo S40 (1996-2004 model) and Mercedes E-Class (2006-2009 model) represented Europe in the top ten.
The Mitsubishi had an astonishingly reliable record, with only one in ten breaking down in any given 12 month period. Two thirds of these break downs could be put down to axle and suspension faults. The Vauxhall Agila achieved second place, with the Suzuki Alto coming in third.

Cost cuts boost Mitsubishi profits

Japanese car giant Mitsubishi has said that its second-quarter net profit improved 60% to 10.1 billion yen (£78.9 million) on cost cuts, but lowered its projection for China, where a bitter territorial dispute is sending sales plunging.

The company, which reported a 6.3 billion yen (£49.2 million) profit for the July-September period last year, is among the Japanese car firms making a solid recovery after last year's earthquake and tsunami disaster that disrupted supply chains. The floods in Thailand that followed added to production woes.

Mitsubishi's quarterly sales dipped 7% to 440.7 billion yen (£3,5 billion) as a strong yen and economic woes in Europe added to the damage, the Tokyo-based manufacturer said today.

Mitsubishi stuck to its profit forecast for the full fiscal year at 13 billion yen (£101.6 million), down 46% from the previous year. It lowered its sales projection to 1.83 trillion yen (£14.3 billion) from an earlier 1.98 trillion yen (£15.5 billion), which will mark a 1% rise on the year.

The maker of the i-MiEV electric car and Outlander sports-utility vehicle now expects to sell 42,000 vehicles in China, lower than the initial forecast for 73,000 vehicles, and falling short of the 63,000 vehicles sold the previous financial year.
